WHEN IT LOOKS TOO LATE – 6-DAY DEVOTIONAL

Day 1 – When It Feels Too Late

Scripture: John 11:21 (NLT)
“Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Devotional Thought

Martha’s words are honest and raw. She believed Jesus had the power to heal—but only if He had shown up earlier. Her faith had a time limit. And if we’re honest, ours often does too.

We believe God can move… but only within our expectations. We trust Him… until things go past what we think is fixable.

Martha thought the opportunity was gone. The miracle window had closed. The situation had moved from “sick” to “dead.”

But Jesus was about to show her something life-changing:

He is not limited to what could have been—He works in what still is.

Many of us live in regret:
“If God had done this sooner…”
“If things had turned out differently…”

But Jesus doesn’t operate in the “if only.”
He steps into the present moment and says:

“I’m still able.”

No matter how far things have gone…
No matter how long it’s been…
No matter how final it feels…

It’s not too late for Jesus.

Reflection Questions

  • Where in your life are you saying, “If only…”?

  • Have you limited God to what you think should have happened?

Prayer Prompt

Lord, forgive me for putting limits on You. Help me trust You not just for what could have been, but for what You can still do right now.

Action Step

Identify one situation you’ve given up on and begin praying for it again today.

Day 2 – God’s Delay Has Purpose

Scripture: John 11:6 (NLT)
“So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days.”

Devotional Thought

This verse is one of the most confusing in Scripture. It says Jesus loved them… and then says He stayed.

We expect it to say:
“Because He loved them, He went immediately.”

But instead, it says He delayed.

That’s because God’s love does not always look like immediate intervention. Sometimes love allows a process so that something greater can be revealed.

Jesus wasn’t late because He didn’t care.
He delayed because He had a greater purpose.

If Jesus had come earlier, He could have healed Lazarus.
But by waiting…
He revealed Himself as the resurrection and the life.

Sometimes God allows the situation to go further than we’re comfortable with…
because He’s about to show us something deeper about who He is.

Reflection Questions

  • Where do you feel like God is delaying in your life?

  • Could there be a greater purpose behind the delay?

Prayer Prompt

Lord, help me trust that Your delays are not mistakes. Give me patience to wait on Your perfect timing.

Action Step

Instead of complaining about a delay, thank God for what He is doing behind the scenes.

Day 3 – Jesus Understands Your Pain

Scripture: John 11:35 (NLT)
“Then Jesus wept.”

Devotional Thought

Jesus knew He was about to raise Lazarus. He knew the outcome would be victory.

Yet… He still wept.

Why?

Because Jesus is not distant from your pain.
He doesn’t just fix situations—He feels what you feel.

He saw Mary crying.
He saw the grief of the people.
And He entered into their sorrow.

That means when you cry…
you are not crying alone.

Sometimes we think we have to “be strong” for God.
But this passage shows us:

God meets us in our weakness.

You don’t have to hide your grief.
You don’t have to pretend everything is okay.

Jesus is not offended by your tears.

Reflection Questions

  • Are you honest with God about your pain?

  • What emotions have you been holding back?

Prayer Prompt

Jesus, thank You for caring about my pain. Help me to bring my real emotions to You.

Action Step

Take time today to talk to God honestly about what hurts—no filters.

Day 4 – Obedience Opens the Door for Miracles

Scripture: John 11:39 (NLT)
“Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.

Devotional Thought

Before Jesus performed the miracle… He gave a command.

“Roll the stone away.”

This didn’t make sense.
The body had been dead for four days.
The smell would be terrible.

From a human perspective, this was unnecessary.
From a divine perspective, it was essential.

God often asks us to do something before we see what He’s going to do.

Faith is not just believing—
faith is obeying.

The miracle was on the other side of their obedience.

What stone has God told you to move?

  • Forgiveness?

  • Letting go?

  • Taking a step of faith?

  • Starting something new?

Reflection Questions

  • What has God been asking you to do that you’ve been resisting?

  • Are you waiting for a miracle before you obey?

Prayer Prompt

Lord, give me the courage to obey You, even when it doesn’t make sense.

Action Step

Take one step of obedience today, even if you don’t see the full picture.

Day 5 – Your Situation Is Not Beyond Jesus

Scripture: Luke 1:37 (NLT)
“For nothing is impossible with God.”

Devotional Thought

By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus was beyond help—humanly speaking.

Four days dead.
Buried.
Wrapped.

Everyone had accepted it as final.

But Jesus didn’t see it the way they did.

What looks impossible to you…
is an opportunity for God.

We often declare things dead too soon:

  • Dreams

  • Relationships

  • Faith

  • Purpose

But Jesus specializes in situations that look too far gone.

The same power that called Lazarus out of the grave…
is still working today.

Reflection Questions

  • What have you labeled “impossible”?

  • Do you truly believe God can still move in that area?

Prayer Prompt

God, help me to believe again. Remind me that nothing is too hard for You.

Action Step

Speak life over something you’ve declared dead.

Day 6 – Come Out of What’s Holding You Back

Scripture: John 11:43–44 (NLT)
“Lazarus, come out!” … “Unwrap him and let him go!”

Devotional Thought

When Jesus called Lazarus out… he came out alive—but still wrapped.

Alive… but bound.

And Jesus told them:
“Unwrap him and let him go.”

This is powerful because it shows us something:

You can be alive in Christ… but still wrapped in old things.

  • Old habits

  • Old mindsets

  • Old hurts

  • Old fears

Jesus brings life—but we still have to walk in freedom.

Salvation is the beginning.
Freedom is the journey.

God doesn’t just want to bring you out—
He wants to set you free.

Reflection Questions

  • What “grave clothes” are still holding you back?

  • Where do you need freedom in your life?

Prayer Prompt

Lord, remove anything in my life that is keeping me bound. Help me walk in the freedom You’ve given me.

Action Step

Take a step toward freedom—talk to someone, pray, or make a change that helps you grow.
